Rilev Human Book Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 25, 2026

Rilev Human Book is operated by Rilev Inc. ("Rilev," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect personal information when you visit or buy from the Rilev Human Book store, complete the Human Book assessment, receive a digital or printed Human Book, or contact us for support.

This policy is specific to the Rilev Human Book store. The Human Book flow is different from the regular Rilev individual app: the regular Rilev individual experience is designed around anonymous account access, while the Human Book store requires order identity and delivery information such as name, email, billing details, and shipping address so we can process payment and deliver the product.

1. The Short Version

  • The Shopify store collects order and delivery information needed to sell and ship your Human Book.
  • The Rilev assessment experience is designed to keep your assessment/report data separated from Shopify checkout identity where possible.
  • Shopify owns checkout identity, payment, order, and delivery data.
  • Rilev uses an opaque fulfillment token to connect a paid order to a Human Book assessment without giving the Rilev assessment app your Shopify order ID, name, email, or shipping address.
  • Lulu receives the information needed to print and ship your book, which may include your name, shipping address, contact details, order details, and print-ready book files.
  • Your print-ready book files may contain personalized report content because that content is required to produce the book you ordered.
  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not use your assessment responses, scores, generated report content, or print-ready book files for targeted advertising.

2. Information We Collect

A. Store, Order, And Delivery Information

When you visit the store, place an order, or contact us, we or our service providers may collect:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number, if provided
  • Billing address
  • Shipping address
  • Order number and order details
  • Product format, such as hardcover, softcover, or digital
  • Payment status, transaction details, and fraud-prevention signals
  • Customer support messages
  • Delivery status and fulfillment information

Payments are processed by Shopify and payment providers. We may receive payment status, transaction details, and limited payment information, but we do not receive or store full payment card numbers.

B. Assessment And Report Information

When you complete the Human Book assessment, we collect and process information needed to generate your personalized Human Book, which may include:

  • Assessment responses
  • Scores, subscale scores, normalized scores, and derived outputs
  • Written reflections or text you choose to provide
  • Generated insights and report content
  • Digital report files
  • Print-ready interior and cover files
  • Fulfillment status connected to your Human Book token

This information may include details about personality, preferences, emotional patterns, self-reflection, wellbeing, or other sensitive personal information depending on what you choose to provide.

C. Anonymous Assessment Access

The Human Book assessment is accessed through an opaque fulfillment token created after purchase. This token is designed to allow the Rilev assessment system to recognize that a Human Book assessment has been purchased without receiving your Shopify customer name, email, shipping address, or real Shopify order ID.

The connector between Shopify and Rilev may hold the encrypted token and Shopify order reference so it can complete fulfillment after your book files are ready.

D. Device, Usage, And Technical Information

We and our service providers may process technical information needed to operate, secure, and improve the store and assessment experience, such as:

  • IP address and request metadata processed by hosting, security, CDN, and infrastructure providers
  • Browser and device information
  • Cookie or session identifiers
  • Checkout, cart, and product interaction data
  • Error, performance, and security logs
  • Referral, discount, or attribution information, if applicable

The regular Rilev app is designed to avoid linking technical identifiers to anonymous assessment data. The Shopify store, however, necessarily processes ecommerce identifiers to operate checkout, payments, fraud prevention, and delivery.

3. How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

  • Operate the store and checkout
  • Process payment and fraud checks
  • Create and manage your order
  • Generate your Human Book assessment link or fulfillment token
  • Provide the Human Book assessment experience
  • Generate personalized report content and print-ready files
  • Calculate shipping rates
  • Print and ship your book
  • Send order, assessment, fulfillment, and support messages
  • Provide customer support
  • Handle refunds, replacements, delivery issues, chargebacks, and disputes
  • Secure, debug, and improve the store and related services
  • Comply with legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations

We do not use your assessment responses, scores, generated report content, or print-ready book files for targeted advertising.

4. Separation Between Shopify Identity And Rilev Assessment Data

The Human Book flow is designed around a separation of responsibilities:

  • Shopify stores checkout identity, payment status, order details, and delivery information.
  • The Rilev assessment app uses an opaque fulfillment token to unlock the purchased Human Book assessment.
  • The Rilev assessment app does not need your Shopify order ID, customer name, email, or shipping address to administer the assessment.
  • The fulfillment connector uses the encrypted token to connect the completed print files back to the correct Shopify order for printing and shipping.

This separation reduces unnecessary linkage between delivery identity and assessment/report data. It does not mean the Human Book product is fully anonymous, because producing and shipping a physical personalized book requires delivery identity and print-ready book files.

5. How We Disclose Information

We disclose personal information only as needed to provide the product, operate the store, fulfill orders, comply with law, or protect our rights and users.

A. Shopify

Our store is powered by Shopify. Shopify processes store visits, checkout, payment, order, customer, tax, fraud-prevention, and related ecommerce information to provide the store and checkout services.

B. Payment Providers

Payment providers process payment information, fraud checks, payment status, disputes, and related transaction data. We do not store full payment card numbers.

C. Rilev Infrastructure And Assessment Providers

Rilev uses hosting, database, storage, email, monitoring, security, and AI/report-generation providers to operate the assessment and generate the Human Book. These providers may process assessment-derived data, generated report content, technical logs, or support information as needed to provide the service.

When AI-assisted report generation is used, we aim to minimize direct identity information sent with assessment/report content. Assessment/report processing is not used by us for targeted advertising.

D. Fulfillment Connector

The Shopify-to-Rilev fulfillment connector processes the encrypted fulfillment token, Shopify order reference, selected book format, fulfillment status, and print-file handoff information so that a completed Human Book can be printed and shipped.

E. Lulu And Print/Shipping Partners

We use Lulu and related print/shipping providers to calculate shipping rates, print your book, and ship it to you. We may disclose to Lulu:

  • Name
  • Shipping address
  • Phone number, if needed for delivery
  • Contact email or fulfillment contact details
  • Order reference or external fulfillment ID
  • Book format and quantity
  • Print-ready interior PDF
  • Print-ready cover PDF
  • Shipping level and delivery information

Print-ready files may contain personalized report content because that content is required to produce the book you ordered.

F. Support, Legal, And Safety

We may disclose information if needed to:

  • Respond to customer support requests
  • Investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents, or delivery problems
  • Enforce our terms and policies
  • Respond to lawful requests, subpoenas, court orders, or regulatory obligations
  • Protect the rights, safety, or property of Rilev, customers, service providers, or others

G. Business Transfers

If Rilev is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate protections.

6. Marketing And Advertising

We may use store-level information, such as product views, cart activity, purchase history, referral information, and email engagement, for ordinary ecommerce communications, abandoned checkout reminders, customer support, product updates, or marketing where permitted by law.

We do not use your assessment responses, scores, generated report content, or print-ready book files for targeted advertising.

We do not sell your personal information.

You may unsubscribe from promotional emails using the unsubscribe link in the email. We may still send non-promotional messages about your order, assessment access, fulfillment, support, policy updates, or legal notices.

7. Cookies And Similar Technologies

The Shopify store and related services use cookies and similar technologies to operate checkout, remember cart/session state, prevent fraud, secure the service, measure store performance, and support customer experience.

Depending on your location, you may have choices about cookies, targeted advertising, or sharing through Shopify's customer privacy tools, browser settings, or links shown in the store.

The assessment experience is designed to avoid unnecessary advertising tracking around assessment/report content.

8. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably needed to provide the Human Book, fulfill your order, provide support, comply with legal/accounting/tax obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent fraud, and maintain security.

Examples:

  • Shopify order records may be retained for ecommerce, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, support, and legal purposes.
  • Assessment/report data may be retained while needed to generate, deliver, support, or regenerate your Human Book.
  • Print-ready files may be retained as needed for fulfillment, reprint, support, quality control, or legal/dispute reasons.
  • Service-provider logs may be retained according to provider policies and operational needs.
  • De-identified or aggregated data may be retained longer where it no longer reasonably identifies you.

If you request deletion, we will process the request as required by applicable law. Some information may be retained where legally permitted or required, such as transaction records, fraud-prevention records, tax/accounting records, chargeback evidence, security logs, and records already processed by third-party providers for completed fulfillment.

9. Security

We use technical, organizational, and contractual safeguards intended to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, tokenized fulfillment design, provider security controls, and separation between Shopify identity data and Rilev assessment access where practical.

No system is perfectly secure. You are responsible for using secure devices, protecting access to your email/order links, and contacting us promptly if you believe your order or assessment link has been accessed without permission.

10. International Transfers

We are operated from the United States and use service providers that may process information in the United States, Canada, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and other countries where they operate.

Your information may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in countries other than where you live. Those countries may have privacy laws that differ from your local laws. We use contractual, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect information consistent with this Privacy Policy.

11. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access or know what personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of personal information
  • Request a copy or portability of certain information
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • Opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising where applicable
  • Appeal certain privacy decisions where applicable

These rights may be subject to legal limits and exceptions. For example, we may need to retain certain order, fraud-prevention, tax, accounting, legal, or fulfillment records.

To make a privacy request, contact us at privacy@rilev.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

12. Region-Specific Notes

Canada

If you are in Canada, we handle personal information in a manner intended to align with applicable Canadian privacy laws. The Human Book store collects identity and shipping information for ecommerce and fulfillment purposes, while the Rilev assessment experience is designed to limit unnecessary linkage between delivery identity and assessment/report data.

United States

Depending on your state, you may have privacy rights relating to access, deletion, correction, portability, targeted advertising, sale/sharing, and non-discrimination. We do not sell personal information and we do not use assessment/report content for targeted advertising.

European Economic Area And United Kingdom

Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, our legal bases may include contract performance, legitimate interests, consent, and legal obligations, depending on the processing activity. You may have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and complaint to a supervisory authority.

13. Children's Privacy

The Human Book store and assessment are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of majority in their jurisdiction. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us at privacy@rilev.com.

14. Third-Party Websites And Services

The store or communications may link to third-party websites or services. Those third parties are responsible for their own privacy practices. We encourage you to read their privacy notices.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect operational, legal, regulatory, or service changes. We will update the "Last updated" date and provide additional notice where required by law.
